To Weed or Not to Weed

First off, the following post is about gardening, not illicit drugs.

So I’ve got this new yard filled with a panopoly of new stuff. The grass if pretty obvious, so are the dandelions, clover, flowers that were obviously planted, but beyond that, some if it’s green, some of it has leaves, some of it looks like flowers, some of it could be weeds. You get the idea. I have no idea what I’m looking at.

Family came to visit and pointed us in the right direction, but now a whole bunch of new stuff is growing and I pretty much err on the side of yanking everything out of the ground. What’s a new homeowner to do.

I tried the Internets. Here are a few links I found helpful:

Anyone have better suggestions? I’m thinking I might post pics and see what you all have to say… or just let you laugh at my lack of knowledge.

Weeds are basically whatever you don’t want in your garden. An azalea bush can be a weed. Your garden is whatever you make of it. So, if you want to have mostly grass or trees, that’s YOUR garden. If you want to let it grow out of control, it’s now your neighbors’ garden since they will be hacking it back away from the part of their garden they don’t want overgrown.

Take a look at your yard and try to decide how you want to use it. Decide how much time you want to spend enjoying it and working on it and how much money you are and are not willing to spend on it. Use all of this to design your future yard and get busy making it so, bit by bit. Don’t worry about the parts you haven’t done yet. Enjoy the journey and the destination will be that much more rewarding.
